Anne and I went to see The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at the Round Rock Amphitheater last night and it was thoroughly entertaining.  It was really quite amazing to watch these three young men, Ryan Crowder, Judd Farris and Nathan Jerkins go through all 37 Shakespeare plays in about 90 minutes.

If you have some time this weekend there are still three more opportunities for you to catch this show.  Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 the show begins at 8pm.  Then there is an encore performance on Sunday, August 22 at 6pm.

Be sure and bring folding chairs or a blanket to sit on.  There were even a few people who brought dinner and had a picnic.

There’s no cost to attend but donations are encouraged.

Tax-Free Weekend begins tomorrow, August 20th here in Texas.

From the Texas Window on State Government Website:

Texas shoppers get a break from state and local sales taxes on August 20, 21 and 22 – the state’s annual tax holiday. Lay-away plans can be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.

As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing and footwear priced under $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Backpacks under $100 and used by elementary and secondary students are also exempt. A backpack is a pack with straps one wears on the back. The exemption during the sales tax holiday includes backpacks with wheels, provided they can also be worn on the back like a traditional backpack, and messenger bags. The exemption does not include items that are reasonably defined as luggage, briefcases, athletic/duffle/gym bags, computer bags, purses or framed backpacks. Ten or fewer backpacks can be purchased tax-free at one time without providing an exemption certificate to the seller.

Anne and I attended the open house at Cedar Ridge High School last night and I have to say that I was absolutely amazed.  This new high school is a far cry from the high schools of my day.  Classes start next Tuesday, August 24th and the kids are really in for something special.

We met several of the booster program parents and for those we didn’t meet I’d like to extend an invitation.  When your organization has a public event or fund-raising program like a car wash or bake sale, or rummage sale, be sure and let us know so we can add it to our calendar of events, blog about it on the site and share it through our weekly newsletter (you can sign up for that in the right hand column).

And to all the kids in Round Rock, have a great year, learn lots of cool stuff, and most of all have fun.

Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Round Rock is opening to the public today, August 18, 2010.  Anne and I enjoyed the pre-opening celebration last night and I was pretty amazed at how smoothly things went considering how many people were there.  It seemed as though they had their entire staff there as well as some of the corporate bigwigs.  I want to thank Josh Henderson, the General Manager, for inviting us to be a part of their opening celebration.

The big grand opening will take place in early September, so be on the lookout for that.
