Moman Architects of Round Rock, TX is celebrating their 10 Year Anniversary this month. Check out this short interview with John Moman from their monthly newsletter.

Why did you found Moman Architects?
My father and grandfather each owned their own businesses so I grew up with that expectation of myself. Moman Architects started in Round Rock, TX with six employees.

What were your expectations when you began the business?
Toni [Moman] and I expected to be successful. We didn’t know any better and were taught to work hard and that is exactly what owning your own firm is – a lot of hard work, but also lots of fun.

What do you like the most about working with your wife and daughter?
As a family business, we have a common goal. We offer each other support when there are challenges and celebrate successes together.

What was your first project?
Our first project was job number 00101, which was Brushy Creek Commons, a two-story retail and office building located on 620 near Great Oaks.

What are a couple of company milestones?
Over the last 10 years, we have had several defining moments, but the most memorable were our firm’s selection to design the Wells Branch Library, as well as the Precinct One Offices for Williamson County. As a small business, we were honored to be in competition with much larger and more recognizable firms.

Describe any challenges you have faced?
Last year’s economic downturn impacted us greatly. Unfortunately, we had to lose part of our wonderful team. That was difficult.

Why is it important for your firm to give?
We have a great desire to take God’s blessings and make a difference in our community through supporting local organizations. We don’t always have a lot of money to give; therefore we provide architectural services at little to no cost for deserving organizations such as the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center, the Boys & Girls Club of Georgetown, Habitat for Humanity and the Camp of the Hills. Sharing our knowledge and time is a great way to give.

Looking back, what advice would you give to yourself ten years ago?
My advice would be to create a strong business development and marketing plan because simply possessing knowledge and being well connected are not sufficient for running a successful business.

What are your thoughts or goals for the next ten years?
My goal is to continue conducting my life and business with integrity and honesty. I subscribe to George Washington’s famous motto, “Deeds not words.”

We are striving to rebuild our team by adding between six to nine employees in the future, as well as to expand the interior design division so that it further supports Moman’s architectural aesthetic.

Toni and I would like to sincerely thank our great clients and loyal employees for the last ten wonderful years.
